Imiti

for HoperAperta

2024

Imiti is a sculptural installation composed of two mirrored totems with an intricate structure. The presence of two elements symbolizes the duality inherent in theatrical masks—joy and sorrow, wonder and apathy, good and evil. These totems are formed by interwoven elements that wrap around each other, creating a dynamic interplay of protection, concealment, and camouflage.

Designed to explore the concept of mimesis, these mirrored totems use their curved surfaces to distort and transform reflections, producing a fragmented and shifting perception of reality. As viewers engage with them, their reflections are altered, challenging them to recognize themselves not just through physical appearance, but through movement, expression, and memory.

The experience is interactive: the closer one approaches, the clearer and more defined their reflection becomes. This gradual sharpening of the image serves as a metaphor—just as proximity to the mirror brings greater clarity, so too does introspection bring us closer to our true essence.
