Out Of Scale: Project Two

for Cappellini

2026

Out of Scale: Project Two continues the journey initiated with the first project, exploring how playing with scale can transform an architectural idea into a design object capable of surprising and possessing a distinct personality of its own. This living room storage piece draws inspiration from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, one of the great masters of the Modern Movement, and from his extraordinary ability to create essential compositions where pure lines and open spaces seem to expand infinitely.

The concept comes to life through the observation of the S. R. Crown Hall in Chicago, while incorporating details reinterpreted from some of his most iconic projects: the cross-shaped column, the distinction between base and roof, and the transparent surfaces that convey a sense of lightness, almost as if the piece were suspended in the air.

The variation in scale, the essential geometries, and the clean lines make the project contemporary and refined, yet at the same time deeply poetic. Every detail is conceived to go beyond its function, telling a story through a subtle interplay of balance and lightness, where architecture and design converge. In this way, Out of Scale once again ceases to be merely a storage object and becomes a small fragment of a city, capable of transforming space into a living, creative, and dynamic environment.
